It is about damn time I found a Reveal the Shield Megatron! For months I have been scampering through Wal-Mart, Target, and several other larger department stores from Delaware to Florida and a DISCOUNT store (5 Below) in Maryland had a shit-ton of the Legends class RTS figures sitting on the racks waiting to be sold. So naturally I bought four Megatrons, one Prime, and one Starscream.
While I love the fact that Hasbro and Takara decided to make another gun Megatron, I have two problems with the figure:
1. The first obvious problem is that it has an orange barrel that is painted gray.
2. It doesn't rest well in MP Starscream OR MP Skywarp's hands without taping it to the hand and looks like an over sized Targetmaster.
Other than the problems stated above, I really enjoy the RTS Megatron. When taking the pictures, I decided to include my "G2" Legends Megatron I bought a couple years back. Both figures pay homage their original counterparts well even if they are smaller. The WST Megatron is still a little smaller than the RTS Megatron. Size-wise with other Legends, he stands about equal. He's a great figure for those who want to make a smaller scale Transformers battle on a table or something, rather than being put with larger Deluxe class figures. I don't have a Trypticon (not yet anyways...) to test with, but he'd probably be close scale to him as well. Of course the rub signs make a reappearance on the RTS figures and the Legends signs hold up better than the ones on the Deluxe class. The Legends figures use close to what was on the original G1 figures, just scaled down. The Deluxe are kind of easily peeled off.
While I have a G2 Megatron, I still want a G1 in my collection. I passed one up a few months ago as it was very loose jointed and had some crusty residue on it. Possibly from the original owners snotty fingers or what I hope was snot... I'm really tempted to just get an Encore Megatron and be done with it as it would be in better condition all the way around.
For a size comparison, I'm also including a pic of the three small gun Megatrons I own. From left to right: WST Megatron, Choro-Q "Black" Megatron, and the RTS Megatron.
The background I used was found here: http://forums.tformers.com/talk/index.php?s=2c009943f24420edf23697c46ed22db1&showtopic=91920 It supposed to be a paper-craft, but I don't have the patience to put all that together. I guess I'll use it for most, if all, all further reviews of Deluxe class and smaller figures in the future.
