HBO in the late 80s and early 90s had some pretty werid shit playing as far as movies go. Hell HBO played Troll 2 all the time just to show you the caliber of stuff they had back then. It was on HBO I first watched Pop Corn and Im happy I did. Pop Corn is a strange horror film that has a lot of good parts in it. The movie was filmed entirely in Jamacia so there is a strange atsomphere to the film. The movie seems like a typical slasher flick on the surface but its defintely set apart from other movies of the genre.
The plot is a group of film students are opening an old theatre for an all night showing of classic horror movies that rely on theatre gimmicks. The students find an old strange movie that seems to have a connection with one of them. Then the killing starts! The fake movies that are shown actually do a great job of imitating movies from the 50s and 60s. Hell I wouldnt mind watching the fake movies actually. When the killer reveals his identity is a great scene and one of my all time faves actually. The effects are pratical and well done for the time. If you havent seen this movie its worth a try and its on youtube if you cant find it else where!
